About RSJ

Rancho San Justo Middle School is located in the city of Hollister.  Hollister sits in northern San Benito County, only 47 miles South of the San Jose metropolitan area and 47 miles Northeast of Monterey. The region still maintains the agricultural and cattle ranching ambiance, which is its’ heritage.

Rancho San Justo Middle School serves approximately 875 students in grade 6, 7, and 8. We believe that implementing an integrated standards-based curriculum will lead to higher academic achievement. We offer different elective opportunities (i.e., Woods, Industrial Tech, Art, Spanish) that help support students to become well-rounded learners and individuals. We are dedicated to ensuring academic success and providing a safe and comprehensive educational experience for every student in a rapidly changing world economy. Students are challenged to improve their academic performance to prepare them for the widest choices possible at each educational level and to provide a sound academic foundation for lifelong learning.

We are a professional learning community and believe in using the data driven improvement model to identify student academic proficiency. This model also helps us to identify academic areas where students need additional instruction and skillbuilding. Student progress is measured by California state testing, district benchmarks, and school-wide assessments, as well as  common formative assessments in the classroom.  We use research-based best practices in our classrooms and use data for instructional decisions.

We are developing a systematic collaboration practice among the staff to review academic growth and academic needs. Our staff participates in site and district committees, including an Instructional Leadership Team, Guiding Coalition, Campus Safety Committee, and the School Climate Committee. Together with our parents and students, we work together on the School Site Council, English Language Advisory Committee meetings, PTO, and district leadership meetings.

Student pride and leadership are a valued part of the Rancho community. Students participate in an Associated Student Body with elected officers and a Homeroom Representative Assembly. A leadership class is offered as an elective with an embedded curriculum.

These systems and programs allow us to focus on our purpose, which is “Giving every student, every opportunity.”
